Operation Market Garden
“Absolutely fascinating, absorbing and excellent value for money”
This, not being my first tour with Leger, I was expecting the same quality of service as that I received on the tour of Eastern Europe and I think this one, the Operation Market Garden, surpassed even that.
An Easy Journey
I chose Silver Service which was absolutely superb and would recommend it to anyone going on one of your tours. I, personally, would never travel any other way. The taxi that took me from home (as I live about ten miles away) removed the worry of getting to the pick-up point, and from the moment I arrived I quickly relaxed, knowing again that I was in very capable hands.
Trouble-Free Transfer
The journey to Dover again was interesting, as I met up with new people who, like me, were starting their tours, and realised that once we got to Dover, we would all go on different coaches and travel our separate ways all over Europe. The transfer at Dover to our various coaches was very well organised and so easy, our cases being taken for transfer to the one that was to be ours for the next few days. Once we spotted our luggage, we boarded the coach and the next time we saw it was when we found it waiting for us in our hotel rooms.
Great Service
We stayed at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Arnhem-Velp, a very well appointed hotel that served excellent breakfasts (included in the cost) and dinners. On this tour, dinners were not included in the price. I would have preferred them to be included so that they could be a part of the getting to know the other members of the party. The comfortable, luxurious coaches served coffee, tea, water and alcoholic drinks that were reasonably priced and there whenever we requested them.
Our First-Class Guide
The very friendly staff did all the fetching and carrying for us - and, it seemed, never stopped smiling. Rob Hilton, our tour guide was absolutely superb. His knowledge of the military operation was first class, his informal approach kept us all interested and in taking us to the places we came to see, explained clearly and easily exactly how and when the events of Market Garden took place.
Going The Extra Mile
We went to Overloon National War Museum – a most magnificent museum of military vehicles which was the best I have ever been to. We had a gentleman with us who was with his sister and who was wounded in the battle, and Rob went to great lengths to take him and us to the places where he served and was wounded. This was so typical of Rob's professionalism, and being able to share his memories was something we all appreciated.
I found the tour absolutely fascinating and absorbing and excellent value for money. I would strongly recommend that anyone taking part in it would take full advantage of the opportunities offered.
